“So many broken children living in grown bodies mimicking adult lives.” -Ijeoma Umebinyuo
I am on a flight home from what has been the single most powerful training of my professional career.
Our focus was healing attachment wounds – the traumas of omission and commission experienced when our caregivers were unwilling or unable to provide the protection, guidance, and nurture we needed as little ones.
As the author of this quote so astutely observes – when we have these wounds – we can be all grown up and yet respond to the world from a part of our nervous system that got locked in time.
There is, however, also an adult part of us – strong enough, wise enough, loving enough – who can learn to come along side that little one, scoop them up, hold their hand, look into their eyes and say “I see you, I’m sorry that’s what happened to you, it’s over now, I love you, we’ve got this!”
The work with the little self through Attachment Repair is my favorite – part of the EMDR Readiness Course! It lays a powerful foundation for deep healing of these wounds through EMDR therapy.

My deepest and warmest thanks to Deany Laliotis, LICSW for this incredible week of challenging our minds – but even more our hearts – to understand this work!!
