“Honor the space between no longer and not yet.” – Nancy Levin
I’m pretty unapologetically nerdy and spent my 18+ hours in the car this holiday season listening to recordings of the EMDR International Association’s annual conference.
In one of the talks, Dr. Joan Borysenko mentioned this quote and spoke of the time one is in trauma therapy as being just this – the scared-to-hope-but-you’ve-come-to-far-to-turn-back-now (my words) – threshold of a new life.
There is so much grief in looking at – and truly seeing – the limitations and even cruelties of our early years without the hazy glow or subtle blurring from idealizing and non-realizing.
There is wonder and awakening in seeing how memories have woven together into networks of meaning – steely spider webbing that has trapped us in beliefs of I’m not safe, I’m not lovable, and the like.
There is lightness in experiencing the magic of of EMDR therapy – as these webs of trauma transform into stunning tapestries and reveal the beauty and resilience of a story now healed.
May these words bring validation of your courage to have made it here and encouragement to keep going!!
What do you resonate with about this? I would love to hear your thoughts!!
Wishing you a Beautiful New Year, Lionhearts!!!
