“You share with people who have earned the right to hear your story.” -Brené Brown
I was listening to a lecture on trauma therapy today, and the instructor was telling about the number of clients who had come to her after EMDR therapy – FURTHER TRAUMATIZED because the therapist had jumped straight in to trauma memory processing – without the appropriate caution and adequate preparation needed in cases of complex/developmental trauma!!!
There is very little that gets me so upset.
It’s the reason I’ve created a course to the train EMDR clinicians in the skills of assessing for and building in readiness for trauma memory processing. These concepts are not generally covered in Basic EMDR Training, and too often therapists don’t even realize they could cause harm in this way.
It’s even more why I created the EMDR Readiness Course for you, Lionhearts, who are trying to navigate your own healing.
The course is designed to be a source of knowledge – a precursor or adjunct to treatment – to help ensure there is what needs to be in place before trauma memory processing can begin safety and effectively.
It’s also why the first module of the course is free. I believe it’s not enough that more people are learning about EMDR therapy and how powerful and transformative it can be. It is also essential that people know how to determine if a practitioner is sufficiently trained and sufficiently cautious to be trusted with their story.
I welcome hearing your thoughts!!

Thank you to Brené Brown for these wise words!
