“Healing isn’t about pretending the damage had not been done, it’s about refusing to allow that which we had suffered in our pasts, to control us in our futures.” – @Broms.the.poet
EMDR therapy can be a powerful way to do this, Lionhearts!!
Yet, it is essential when the tough stuff started way back at the beginning (which is considered “complex/developmental trauma”) that the work be approached with appropriate caution and adequate preparation – or it is possible to risk destabilization, or worse, re-traumatization!!
This is the reason I’ve created a course to the train EMDR clinicians in the skills of assessing for and building in readiness for trauma memory processing.
These concepts are not generally covered in Basic EMDR Training, and too often therapists don’t even realize they could cause harm in this way.
It’s even more why I created the EMDR Readiness Course for you, Lionhearts, who are trying to navigate your own healing.
The course is designed to be a source of knowledge – a precursor or adjunct to treatment – to help insure there is what needs to be in place before trauma memory processing can begin safety and effectively.
It’s also why the first module of the course is free. I believe it’s not enough that more people are learning about EMDR therapy and how powerful and transformative it can be. It is also essential that people know how to determine if a practitioner is sufficiently trained and sufficiently cautious to be entrusted with their care.
